« Everything's Amazing And Nobody's Happy »
Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11:28AM Just thought I'd share this little gem from the comedian Louis CK. Here he is talking with Conan O'Brien about how we as a society have little appreciation for today's technology and all it has to offer. My favorite line comes in response to Conan asking Louis if he feels as though we take all of this technology for granted.
He says, "We live in an amazing, amazing world and it's wasted on the crappiest generation of spoiled idiots."
Sad, but true. I realize this comes right on the heels of my complaining about the miracle that is iPhone but sometimes a good metaphor is hard to come by.
I am old enough to remember the days of rotary phones, vinyl records, and pantyhose that came in plastic eggs. For those in their teens, they have never known life without file sharing and Tivo. Instant gratification is the name of the game. Not terribly heartwarming but it does make for a good stand up act.
Enjoy!

I remember a world with no email. How did we survive? Ah ha ha
I love louis ck and this is definitely one of my favorite clips of his. Good choice!
He's awesome! I hadn't heard of him before. He's so right about this technology stuff.
We should all just quit complaining and enjoy its benefits already!
Excellent clip, Jen!
How funny to hear him talking about rotary phones!
It's true though...
...all this technology is great on one hand, but on the other it's made us more impatient. The more convenient things get, the more convenient we want them.
Some technology I will use and others I prefer to do it the old fashioned way. My god...I still have a landline phone, can you believe it? But yet, I would be lost without my computer!
I seem to resist technology at first, but then I end up loving it!
Agreed. I think it's a case of kids not just being spoiled, but being jaded as well. With television, movies, and the internet exposing kids to things you or I would *never* have seen at a young age, nothing seems shocking to kids anymore. Oh, and don't get me started on the "entitlement" mentality of kids nowadays.
...geez, I sound like an old man yelling at the neighborhood kids to stay off his lawn.
Great post. I still have a cell phone that is only one step up from the kind where you pull up the antenna. I've never texted. Ever. Growing up, we never had the video games and things, and I doubt very much that my children will, since they're so NOT a part of our house. I may be wrong, but I'm so hoping. I don't know what I'd do with MORE technology--I waste more than enough time on the computer!
I've seen this before and love it. It is sadly, so true! Hoping that I can have that attitude on my next flight instead of the chest gripping fear that normally overcomes me!!! :)
Thanks all for the comments so far. So fun to meet a few new people to my blog. Welcome Allegria, Melissa and Alexandra.
Glad everyone enjoyed the clip. It is a good one and always makes me laugh.
I recently attempted to explain pay phones to my daughter. It's bizarre when you come across stuff like that and realize she's never seen it.
Kids today are spoiled which is fine, but they act like BRATS. That part isn't ok!
Have a great day ♥
I looove me some Louis CK. This is freaking hilarious (and so true). Thanks for sharing!
Oh, hilarious! I loved the part where he says re: cellphone calls "Give it a MINUTE. It's going to SPACE. Can you JUST give it a MINUTE?"
Great clip, Jen!
Hi, stopping by from SITS! :)
Pantyhose don't come in eggs anymore? I loved those things! I think about how technology has changed even since i graduated high school and it boggles my mind.
I remember my first cell phone back in 1997. LOL. WOW. Things have certainly changed; that's for sure. I actually read an article recently which suggested that kids today are actually socially weak, because nobody interacts and everybody has their heads buried in their cell phones at college campuses. Probably true.
